"There was a day"

Have you ever had one of those days? You know, the kind where the bottom seems to drop out from underneath you suddenly. The kind of day when it seems that everything that can go wrong will go wrong. Many of us have had "those" kind of days to some extent.

The bible gives us an account of a man who had a bad day, then another bad day, then another. We're not sure how many, nor how long it lasted. What we are sure of is that things were bad for him. By now you may have guessed who I am speaking of. The book of Job tells us about the man and his story. In chapter one, verse six, the bible states: "Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them." Two things stand out to me here. First, right there in the midst of the meeting with the sons of God, the devil showed up! The second statement that jumps out to me in this verse are the words "THERE WAS A DAY." It should have been a good day. But the day, and the days ahead for Job were not good at all. The devil intended to destroy him.

I don't know what kind of calamity you may be going through. I don't know your problems. You may be facing financial difficulties. Your house may be in default. Or, you may be facing a marriage breakdown. You may have gotten a bad report from the doctors. It may seem your world is falling apart. You may have been riding on top of the world, when suddenly, you had a bad day. But hold on. Don't give up. This is no time to quit!

When I read the first chapter of Job, I read about his bad day and his bad days. When I read the last chapter of Job, I read about his restoration, the turnaround in his life. There was another day. He held on. He outlived the storm. He survived the chaos. And so can you.

There was another day I want to tell you about. It was a dark day. They hung him on the cross. They crucified him. He died. They put him in a tomb. But on the third day, he arose. Victorious over death, hell, and the grave. He has promised us his power. What looked like a bad day, God turned into a good day.

Never allow your down times to rule your life. Our God is a God of resurrections. The best is yet to come!
